The Katatonics are a three piece surf rock band hailing from Bloomington, Indiana, known for their instrumental music. Formed in 2013 by guitarist Chris Hack and upright bass player Justin Meier, they later welcomed Danny McKinley on drums and Mike Morgan on rhythm guitar. After performing in local and surrounding area circuits, the band released their first official EP 7" titled "Swamp Terror," along with a cassette tape release of "SLAPBASSSURF!" through Cassetteland Records. A year later, they launched their second album, "Operation Neptune," featuring songs dedicated to a split cassette tape with The Enstrangers from Lafayette, IN. Since then, the Katatonics have toured the mid-west and east coast, sharing the stage with acts like Messer Chups, The Madeira, and Italy's Surfer Joe.
As of 2022, the group, now consisting of Mike Morgan (Bass), Chris Hack (Guitar), and Danny McKinley (Drums), released the EP "On Tour From Canada," as well as their self-titled album in 2023, which won the Best Local Release from Punk Rock Night Indianapolis.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Katatonics are set for another lineup change and have new material in the works, so stay tuned to see what's next.
